Be Inspired: Coastal Living

A serene coastal living theme can be created in any setting, it doesn’t matter if you live on a cliff top overlooking the ocean or in a city apartment block with not a drop of water in sight. Bernie believes coastal decor has come back into fashion because it evokes pleasant memories of relaxed beachside holidays and encapsulates easy living. In this article learn how to create a beautiful coastal theme in your living space.

Bring nature into your home by selecting pieces of furniture and accessories made from organic materials. A dining table created from reclaimed, weathered wood looks fantastic in a relaxed coastal home like the beautiful Elm Table featured in our Fab Finds below. Furniture made from bamboo, teak and wicker also fits perfectly with this decor.

Add a subtle touch of seaside to your home with organic patterned and textured accessories such as Theo & Joe’s ‘Belize Lamp’ made from twigs. Rattan baskets and shell sculptures also look wonderful and the best bit is coastal accessories don’t have to cost a fortune. A twisted piece of driftwood on top of a glass coffee table looks striking and is affordable too.

Bernie particularly adores artisan rugs which are inspired by nature – ‘a pebbled beach, a field of grains, a nest of twigs’. Crafted from sustainable natural fibres these rugs come in neutral tones and feel wonderful under your feet – perfect for coastal living.

Fresh nautical stripes never go astray on a bedspread, rug or blinds. While nautical-inspired art is also a fantastic addition too, whether it is shells, sketches of marine life or soothing beach landscapes. Feature art on white walls with exposed panelling and wooden beams.
