Style feature: Baz Luhrmann & Catherine Martin’s Gatsby style home
Could this couple be the epitome of Australian style? Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin certainly set the standard high.
We all know and respect Baz for his incredible work in the film world, most recently directing The Great Gatsby movie. But fewer of us know as much about Catherine – Baz’s wife of 17 years.
Catherine is a set designer, production designer and costume designer along with a film producer. She hails from Sydney and worked as an usherette before studying a Diploma Design Course at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts.
Catherine started collaborating with her college friend Baz, and went on to design for many of his movies including Moulin Rouge, La Boheme, and The Great Gatsby.
With endless awards – just last week taking out the awards for best costume design and best production design for Gatsby at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards – and two children between them, Catherine is now also designing furniture, wallpaper and rugs.
The photos below take us inside the couple’s home at a party they hosted to launch one of Catherine’s recent collections. The grand, indulgent and elegant interior is very Gatsby-esque don’t you think?
