The 2016 Interior Design Forecast

The year ahead of us in design is an exciting one – rich in texture, pattern and colour. Take a read of our guide to the interior styles we’ll be seeing in 2016:

1. WARM METALLICS

They have been ‘on trend’ for a few years now, but the popularity of metallics prevails. In 2016, it’s all about the warm tones of golds, copper and brass. How to use this look? Think tap-wear, pendant lights and even cupboard handles for subtle, eye-catching touches.

2. VINTAGE TROPICANA

It’s summertime which means it’s perfect timing to experiment with the tropical prints that will be centre-stage in the fabric designs we see this year. A nod to retro Palm Springs is as easy as a foliage-print cushion or platter.

3. BLACK KITCHENS

White kitchens have been the norm in recent times, but there is a slow but steady shift towards darker appliances and joinery in the kitchen. Black creates a sophisticated, glamorous feel to the otherwise practical space.

4. STATEMENT MIRRORS

A staple in every home, the humble mirror is receiving a makeover this year with intricate designs and unusual shapes – often harking back to early 1900s styles – demanding space in hallways, bathrooms, bedrooms and… just about anywhere we can fit one!

5. BATHROOMS AS LIVING SPACE

With bluetooth music players and paperless books, the art of relaxation can now move with us more easily around the home. This means our bathrooms are becoming used more as an extra living space where we listen to music, relax and read. Throws, rugs, chandeliers and of course statement mirrors are this year turning bathrooms into a space that we really want to spend time in.
