A tribute to Oscar de la Renta
One of the world’s most loved designers, Oscar de la Renta, passed away on Monday, leaving behind a long legacy of iconic and elegant pieces. He dressed stars from ‘Jackie O’ to Audrey Hepburn, Michelle Obama to Taylor Swift. In fact, one of his last creation’s was Amal Clooney’s wedding dress, in which she married the superstar actor – George Clooney.
Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman spoke of the designer’s enduring talent and legacy, writing on Vogue.co.uk , “of all the designers in the world, Oscar de la Renta was the most reliable at designing clothes that made you feel beautiful.”
The Dominican-born designer also developed a loyal following of his home-wares, last year launching a debut collection of tabletop and entertaining accessories. The range exudes de la Renta’s hallmark chic and feminine style combined with Punta Cana influences – a reference to his heritage.
The revered designer spent as much time as he could at the resort he part-owned in Punta Cana – the Puntacana Resort & Club. It would be hard not to feel relaxed and indulged in the stunning beach-side setting. The tropical escape is filled with laid-back wicker furniture, lashings of sunny colours and local artisan wares.
