Art and Luxury: Unveiling the Spectacular Swimming Pool in Positano

August 16, 2024

In this blog post, we head over to the Amalfi Coast in Italy and dive into the enchanting waters designed by Nicolas Party. This captivating swimming pool is located in the Le Sirenuse, which stands proud in the vertical town of Positano.

Le Sirenuse is a 5-stay family-run boutique hotel that boasts being in the World’s 50 Best Hotels. Needless to say, this hotel with its walls of red is a beacon that can be recognized from the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.

The Sersales opened the Le Sirenuse in 1951 as a seaside refuge for travellers to share their stories, traditions, and recipes. Now, this prominent red hotel is renowned for its world-class services and amenities that marry function and art.

The Sersales family’s belief that feeding the soul while nourishing the body can be seen in the way they’ve envisioned their hotel’s pool. The pool invites guests to dive into art to enrich the body and soul one lap at a time.

Nicolas Party designed the pool according to Antonio and Carla Sersale’s direction, in honour of their late father’s vision. The pool’s mosaic is an artistic reinterpretation of the views that one can see from Le Sirenuse - from the mountains to the sea.

At its deepest part, Party placed a golden mosaic disk that represents the sun. An invitation for guests to jump into the pool’s depths and into the sky.

The pool mosaic was reproduced by Bisazza, Italy’s leading glass mosaic firm. It was then laid down by the famous Fabrizi brothers, Italian mosaicistis.

The owners of Le Sirenuse made sure that the pool, sea, and sky were the focal point of this space, by using only plain colours to design the space. The walls are painted red, the colour of the hotel’s mermaids, and white. Bougainvillaeas scale down the walls adding greenery to the bright femme fatale red of the walls.

Terracotta tiles were chosen to add more warmth to contrast the blues of the sky, sea, and pool. Terracotta pots that house lemon trees also surround the area, lending shade to travellers.

The white pool seats and umbrellas entice guests to lay upon them and relax as if they were on a cloud while staring out to sea. So, while the pool is a marvel in itself, the sea is still Le Sirenuse’s mistress.

The pool bar also follows the white furnishing and upholstery motif, because all its seats, tablecloths, and benches are white. A representation ofthe clean slate that Le Sirenuse offers to travellers.
