Celebrity Insider: Cate Blanchett's Sydney home

May 22, 2022

A secluded waterfront home went on the market last week and is already attracting significant media attention. This is in part because it belongs to actress Cate Blanchett and her family.Positioned in Hunters Hill, the sandstone mansion is known as 'Bulwarra' and was once owned by the Arnotts family. It is expected to attract bids of an impressive $20 million.Built in 1877, the two-storey home sits on nearly an acre of land and features a pool, tennis course and designer gardens created by Will Dangar. The move comes as Kate, her husband Andrew Upton (director of the Sydney Theatre Company) and their four children plan their move to Los Angeles at the end of this year. They bought the property in 2005 for $10.2 million and undertook an extensive, three-year renovation with architects Nadine Alwill and Dr Stephen Lesiuk. The work almost doubled the floor space and added separate, self-contained quarters under the swimming pool.Inside these quarters, the style is masculine and industrial with grey, polished concrete floors and walls, whilst the heart of the house features oversized artwork, statement pendant lights and heavy rugs creating a warmer appeal. It's unlikely this home will be on the market long. Regardless of its celebrity owner, it's an impressive and expansive designer home.Take a look...
