Having previously turned the Grand Palais into an airport, supermarket and brasserie, expectations were high for exactly what designer Karl Lagerfeld would create for this year's Chanel haute couture catwalk show in Paris.
For 2016, the mood was serene, with models descending from a minimalist and slatted-wood pavilion, down a path and across a neat green lawn. Painted blue skies and fully grown trees completed the scene.
Celebrating green living and sustainability, Lagerfeld brought together eco-friendly and high-end fashion. Not just used on the set, the timber theme carried through to handmade wooden 'sequins' embroidered on the garments and timber invites sent to guests pre-show.
The designer told journalists that he wished to emphasise the 'zen attitude' in a modern spirit of today. Fittingly, with no bells and whistles, the grand finale moment saw the structure simply open up to three levels, with models positioned on each.
